We all spend our days around furniture, but have you ever stopped to consider that your furniture also spends it’s days around you? Bet you’ve never thought about that! In this blog, we interviewed some of our most recognisable pieces and asked them to share a bit of their daily lives with us. Keep reading, it might surprise you!
The Humble Sofa
First, we checked in with the sofa, one of the most reliable pieces that makes up your home. As the king of comfort zones, the sofa is most certainly the cornerstone of a relaxing PJ-Day, or cosy evenings by the fire. Sofas in the living room cited the evening as their favourite time of day, while also mentioning their closest companion, the trusty cushion. On the other hand, sofas residing in the kitchen mentioned the afternoon as being the best time of day.
Overall, the sofa prides itself on being a symbol of relaxation and bonding for both friends and family. Make sure you give your sofa plenty of pals with character – add a cosy throw blanket or soft cushion to complete the ensemble. Add a few candles for lighting and ambience, and you’ve made your sofa a whole lot of friends! And finally, we asked the sofa for it’s favourite day of the week!
I love playing host to family evenings in front of the TV, and catnaps before dinner. My favourite day of the week is Movie Night!
The Omniscient Mirror
We all think of the mirror as the most unforgiving piece of furniture in our homes, but that’s actually quite far from the truth. The mirror sees all, knows all (yes, even that time you thought no one saw you pick your nose – the mirror saw). The mirror prides itself on something most other pieces of furniture don’t have; the power of perspective. Think of the mirror as a reflection on your daily life – after all, it does see it all.
We consulted both bathroom and bedroom mirrors for this entry. We found bathroom mirrors enjoyed playing witness to beauty routines and mouthwash swishing in the morning, while bedroom mirrors admitted to a guilty pleasure; their owners’ shopping hauls on payday! When asked what the mirror would communicate if it could speak, it wanted us to know that no, those jeans don’t make you look frumpy, and yes, blue is your colour. It also asked if you could please clean the nose smudges from the bottom that the dog left on it last week, you know the ones.
Think of the mirror as your most trusted friend – they see everything that happens around the house, so you can rely on them to keep things real with you.
The Underrated Warrior – The Rug!
Every house has a rug, and every rug has something in common! Possibly the most under-appreciated piece of furniture that brightens up almost everyone’s homes is the rugged underdog – the rug! A rug can do so much for a space, from bridging the gap between mismatched pieces to warming up a room, you can always rely on this piece to be there for you, literally! And yet, the rug feels as though it’s arguably one of the least cherished pieces among it’s peers. This could be due to the numerous dirty shoes and muddy paws that grace their downtrodden surface each day. We recommend treating your rugs with love and care to avoid any perceived slights. Try to place your rug somewhere where it’s in the center of attention, like it deserves to be!
No one appreciates a good rug these days! Day in, day out, it’s just step all over me! I’d like to see a bed get walked over!
So, there you have it – maybe give your rugs and carpets some love (we think they deserve it!).
And Finally, the Multi-tasking Table
The dining table, possibly one of the unsung heroes of home furnishing. We checked in with a number of dining tables, and they had a lot to say. As the hub of family meals, stressed study sessions, arts & crafts, and even acting as a dumping ground for schoolbags and shopping bags, the dining table acts as the focal point of your day.
Most dining tables reported that the evening was their favourite time of day, like the sofa. They enjoy bringing the family (and even sometimes the dog) together at the end of a long day, and especially enjoyed when their friends, the trusty placemats and coasters are brought out as an extra layer of protection against spills and stains.
The dining table serves as a reliable and versatile staple in most busy households.
Who else can do what we do? Is there anything else in the house you can eat your dinner off and work from home from? The sofas wish they were us.
Clearly aware of their standing in most homes, the dining table is a proud member of your household family. Maybe invest in a nice tablecloth, or set of placemats to keep them appeased, though.
