Last month in our flagship store in Newbridge, we welcomed Blathnaid and Malachi from Barretstown; a local charity based in just outside of Naas, County Kildare. This year, we made the decision to support Barretstown, and help fund the incredible work they do with children living with serious illnesses. Our CEO, Joe Murphy, was honoured to be able to symbolically hand over this donation on behalf of everyone at Murphy Home. Our Brand Manager, Andy worked with the Barretstown team to make this happen , and we’re all looking forward to visiting the team soon to see more of the work they do firsthand.
If you’re not familiar with Barretstown or the brilliant work they do – they’re an Irish children’s charity that provides life-changin therapeutic camps and programmes for children affected by cancer and other serious illnesses, all without cost to the family. Services like this help children to rebuild their confidence, forge friendshops, and foster their independence; essentially, it lets them be children. The impact of these camps can’t be understated for the children and families that benefit from them.
As a business, we’re committed to engaging with the community we see every day in our stores, our offices, our warehouse, and across the country from our pink vans. It’s in no small part down to the people that we see day in, day out, that continue to support us, that make these kind of donations possible.
Today we’re taking a step back from furniture and decorating tips (there’s certainly loads of those to scroll through!), and we’d like to encourage you to take a few moments to visit the Barretstown website, and take a look into what they do. If you’ve only ever heard their name in passing, or this is the first you’ve heard of them, take a minute to see the impact the work they do has. Since opening their gates in 1994, they’ve supported over 125,000 children and their families, all free of charge.
