When it comes to creating your dream bedroom, one of the biggest and most important decisions you’ll have to make in the process is choosing the right bed frame. Trust me, it is that important. Think about it, your bed is much more than just a place to sleep! It’s the focal point of the room, and really sets the tone for the level of comfort in any bedroom. In this blog, we’ll take a look at what goes into choosing the perfect bed frame. And how to make sure you can apply it to your own shopping!
Size Matters (again!)
While we all love the idea of a huge king bed, sometimes they’re not always practical. Before committing to a bed bigger than your wildest dreams, consider both the room and those in it! To make this step a little bit easier, here’s a rundown of bed sizes for you to peruse at your leisure.
- Single (3’): Perfect for young kids or small spaces. If you don’t have lots of space to accommodate a bed, this is a great option.
- Small Double (4’): This is a perfect option for single sleepers who want a little bit more room than a single offers to stretch out and starfish, while still being mindful of space economy!
- Double (4’6): A standard option, and one of the most popular for a reason! It’s big enough to accommodate couples (and the dog, at a push), but doesn’t overcrowd a room.
- King (5’): If you have the space, this is where you can really splash out. If you have kids and pets joining you in the bed, this size gives you just that bit more freedom!
- Super King (6’): Twice the size of a single, this bed gives you room and then some! However, if it’s in a cramped setting, it can look a little bit out of place, so read the next steps to find out the best match!
Before settling on which size is right for you, take some measurements of the room. Remember to consider that you may want to reorganise the space, so even though the bed may fit in theory, check to make sure it also leaves space for additional furniture and ease of movement!
Style
Now that the practicals are taken care of, the next step is to find the frame that suits your style. Remember that your bed really is a focal point in the room – regardless of what else you choose to decorate with, eyes will always be drawn to the bed first. If storage is a priority for you, then the best option for you would be a storage bed. These are a great way to combine style and function, and come in really handy when you’re working with smaller spaces or less storage in the room than you would like.
The next step on our list is to consider what kind of material you want. Envision your dream room, and ask yourself; do you see a modern metal look, a contemporary wooden accent, or have you gone for a fabric? Go from there, and then start to explore the multitudes of variety after that. For wooden beds, we have a wide range, including oak, walnut, acacia, mango, and pine – all really solid options! If you’re in the market for a fabric bed, your only concern is the colour, of which we have plenty of options! A personal favourite of mine is the Karma Bed Frame – sleek, modern and stylish!
Height
While not the be all and end all of your bed set up, the height of your headboard can make a difference! If you’re someone who likes to read in bed, or sit up while watching TV – then a higher headboard might be a good idea. This will provide you with the back support you need, and make it easier during duvet days to get comfy! If your bed is just a place you sleep, a lower headboard might be a good option for you! While looking at different fabrics and materials, see which stands out to you. Remember that this is another area where space comes into play – if you’re trying to make sure the bed doesn’t dwarf the surroundings, a lower headboard might be the solution.
On the other hand, if you want the bed to draw attention and really make a statement, then a higher one might be your best option! Try to imagine your space and see what would work best for you! To get a sense of what’s out there, here’s a an example of a low and high headboard. If neither feel like the right choice for you then something in the middle of both might tickle your fancy.
A few other things to keep in mind:
- When choosing a colour, remember that while you can change your bedsheets, room decor, and other things in the room, the bedframe itself is pretty fixed and permanent. Make sure to choose a complimentary colour! Or one you wouldn’t mind looking at everyday for the next few years.
- Be honest with yourself. Different materials require different cleaning – and are you really going to want to do it? Choose the right material to fit your lifestyle: it’ll last longer this way!
- Test them out! If you’re unsure, head in store and explore the wide range of different bed frames. The best way to ensure you’ve found the perfect one is by trying them out! Go wild, sit on them, hold up some colours to get an idea of what matches!
